Tail shape Forked

Silvery, tinted light blue above; a blue stripe from snout along top of back then down along lower edge of lower lobe of tail fin, that bordered above by a black stripe from under the origin of the second dorsal to the tail tip; juvenile with ~6 dark bars on body.


Biology

Common in clear water near islands or in coral reefs off mainland coasts. Juveniles frequent areas with Sargassum (large brown seaweed) and other algae. Usually in schools which may be spawning groups; occasionally solitary. Feeds on fishes, shrimps and other invertebrates. Easily approached. Large individuals have caused ciguatera poisoning when eaten.
